We had expected that while we drove through the various areas of Ireland, that we could stop and take pictures whenever we saw something picturesque. What we found was that there were either walls, trees and bushes, or walls overgrown with trees and bushes. A very few times we found "lay-by's" which were scenic overlooks, but mostly we were out of luck with pulling over to take pictures.

The actual distance between Killarney and Skibbereen where we would turn off for our destination of Inish Beg, was only about 60 miles away on N71, a "major" road. It was actually tiny, with no shoulders on either side, but still had 100km (about 62mph) speed limit signs. We kept laughing at the signs, but others seemed to take them seriously. It was especially nerve-wracking for Jim when we would have to pass large tour busses coming the opposite way. I don't know how they actually fit in those tiny lanes. N71 wound around and around, up and down, through forest, mountain gaps, rock tunnels and took us several hours to get through those 60 miles.

After driving through the forest after Muckross House, we came to this lay-by called Ladies View. We had been surprised after coming out of the forest areas to find rugged mountains and non-green landscape. We had always heard that "everything is green" in Ireland. But what a great view! The next picture is someone else's picture from Ladies View, but obvioulsy taken at a different time of year.
